cj's photo shoot...

the other day i came in to the room and discovered cj (a TWO-year-old mind you) had parked himself in front of the computer, opened photobooth, and orchestrated a little photo shoot of almost 60 shots...

here is a compilation of the results...

remember bethoven?

yes we bought a puppy...a three-month-old st.bernard mix. she's not actually ours...and is soon to be staying at the children's center building...as soon, that is, as we can keep her from freezing her tail off at night there!

the kids love her...although they haven't quite learned that running and screaming does NOT communicate "please don't chase me" to a dog...which leads to much fear and trepidation!

her name is sevhee ("freckles") and though an 8th floor apartment is not exactly "ideal" for puppy care, she's a sweet dog and we're having fun with her while she's here. aside from cleaning all the messes...(let me tell you...a puppy that size makes some big ones) and worrying about her at night (who signed us up for a third kid!??!).

here are some shots of her first night with us...

a bit shaken...

last night chris and i were walking back to our apartment from the garage where we park our car, it's not far but far enough.

we heard someone clear their throat behind us and somehow we both knew something bad was going to happen. i instinctively put my arm in chris' and the next thing we knew a man grabbed chris asking him if he was mongolian. he answered no and told the guy to let go of him. the man was drunk, and raised his arm to hit chris. this is where we know someone must have been praying, because the man's arm just hung there, midair!

i started screaming for someone to help, but soon realized that does little but bring people's curious stares.

the guy still had hold of chris and when i screamed for help he kept repeating that we were good friends, don't yell!

chris makes me carry mace in my pocket, but i'm admitting now i was too afraid of using it to listen and learn how. so when he reminded me it was there i couldn't help! i just kept screaming until the guy dragged chris toward me, grabbed my hand to "shake hands" and wouldn't let go. that gave me the chance to hand chris the mace, he pulled the guy off me and maced him! (that's a first-see for me).

we've had some crazy things happen to us since we've been here, but i'm telling you, seeing that guy grab chris and looking around to see there was not a soul around to help us is the most scared i've ever felt. what's awesome, though, is that God was there to help, and we walked away without a scratch! (although i cried all the way home).

the story could've ended so differently...it has for people we know, and though God would still be just as good if it had, we are so grateful for the many prayers of friends and family on our behalf, we can physically see their effectiveness in moments like these!

so...thank you...and keep them coming! (and yes...i let chris teach me how to use the mace...and actually listened this time!!!)
